Speedster Courtney Guard, key forward Andrea Gilmore and utility Melissa Caulfield are officially Eagles until the end of the 2022 season.

Versatile forward Caulfield will provide the Eagles with 28 games experience across five seasons in the AFLW competition.

In 2021, Caulfield reached career-high numbers, racking up 23 tackles, three goals and seven marks across her seven matches.

The 33-year-old also sits loftily in fourth for score involvements for the West Coast outfit, with 18 across last season.

“Mel Caulfield at one point was probably the best player in the competition,” Pratt said.

“So to sign a player of her calibre and experience to integrate with our younger players as well, is really good for us.”

Perth College teacher Guard has also penned a one-year contract extension after a solid 2021 campaign with the Eagles.

The former Docker arrived at West Coast with one AFLW game to her name and quickly became a member of the leadership group.

As a cross-code athlete who has competed in both basketball and athletics, the 29-year-old brings a certain pace and resilience, which strongly contributes to the Eagles’ midfield.

The winger was also in the top-five for intercept possessions (33) in 2021, and continues to build on consistent efforts throughout the year.

“’Stubbsy’ is a great club person, great to sign her again,” AFLW coach Daniel Pratt said.

“She brings a lot of energy to the environment we have and having an age-experienced player like her really helps us mentor the younger players we have on our list.”

Former West Coast Fever netballer Andrea Gilmore has also penned a new deal with the Eagles, after being elevated from a train-on status in 2019.

The 32-year-old is a strong marking target, considering her 183cm build, and can also mix it up in ruck when required.

Despite appearing in only the first three matches of the 2021 campaign before succumbing to injury, Gilmore is now back at full fitness and ready to build her performance in 2022.

“It’s great to sign ‘Gilly’, obviously she had a few issues with her concussion that she received in round three against Brisbane, but we’ve worked through that,” Pratt said.

“She looks like she’s come out the other end quite well, so it was really good to lock her away as a key position player.”
