The West Coast Eagles are about to roll up their collective sleeves to help local communities that have been devastated by disasters in recent months.

Western Australia has been hit hard in the first half of 2021, firstly by the Wooroloo bush fires in February and more recently Cyclone Seroja that inflicted unprecedented carnage on the mid-west.

As those communities begin to re-build and clean up, the Eagles have committed to assist.

The club will launch an online auction of West Coast Eagles memorabilia that will be launched on Wednesday, giving fans the opportunity to purchase a special slice of club history as well as support the cause.

There are pieces commemorating Brownlow Medal winning achievements and premierships, as well as current collectables like the guernseys worn by Liam Duggan and Jack Redden this year that have been ripped in the heat of battle.

All proceeds will be directed to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund to assist the recovery in those communities.

“It has been heart-breaking to see the impact of the Wooroloo bushfires and then the devastation, particularly in Kalbarri and Northampton from the cyclone,” chief executive Trevor Nisbett said. “We have a close connection to a lot of people who had their lives turned upside-down overnight.

“Obviously, with respect to the mid-west, our club has a direct relationship with that region, so many past and present players originally coming from the area.

“This is a practical way we can assist them to get back on their feet.”

In addition to the auction, a small team from the club’s community and game development department will head to Kalbarri and Northampton this week to assist the clean-up operation.
