The powerful band of dedicated West Coast Eagles members have done it again, soaring to great heights in the face of adversity to pass the 100,000-mark for the second year in succession.
The club achieved a six figure membership for the first time in 2020 despite the hardships endured in what was the most difficult of environments. The Eagles went on to record the highest membership in the club’s history, with 101,275 fans committing as members.
That was achieved when the Eagles spent half the season based in Queensland in a hub and when, for several games, no fans were allowed at matches.
West Coast Eagles Chief Executive Officer Trevor Nisbett said it was humbling to see the level of support for the club.
“Despite further instability through the impact of the pandemic, the loyalty of Eagles fans remains as strong as ever and it is enormously gratifying,” Mr Nisbett said. “So many have been – and still are – doing it tough and we are so grateful they have again committed to our club.
“Of course, there are also some new members who are on board for the first time and we welcome them into the West Coast family.
“We look forward to seeing a strong contingent of blue and gold at the MCG on Sunday when we play Hawthorn and, fingers crossed, the situation in WA remains steady. If that is the case we will be able to have our members back at Optus Stadium the following Sunday when we play Adelaide.
“As much as members and fans enjoy the match day experience, the players love having them there, too. They certainly missed the sea of Eagles members at last week’s RAC Derby, but they were at the forefront of the players’ minds when they won the game.
“Thank you all once again for your loyal support and hopefully we can do you proud during the 2021 campaign. We really are looking forward to seeing you all again, in Perth and around the country.”
Interestingly, Richmond also announced this week that they had reached the 100k mark again this year. The Eagles managed to pip them last year and there’s still time to edge past the reigning premiers in 2021.
