Capping off an outstanding season, West Coast Eagles 2024 Club Champion Ella Roberts has been selected in the AFLW All-Australian team.
This is Roberts’ first All-Australian nod, and she becomes just the second AFLW Eagle to be selected in the final 21-player team, following defender Charlie Thomas’ selection last year.
Later in the evening at the AFLW Awards, Roberts polled 12 votes in the AFLW best and fairest count, placing her equal ninth.
Roberts starred in her third season in the blue and gold, her high-flying marks, tough tackles and speed around the play were a pleasure to watch, with the 19-year-old smashing both career and club records.
Having already made a name for herself as one of the brightest young stars in the competition, Roberts continued to elevate her game to new levels in 2024.
The Peel Thunder product averaged career-bests for disposals (21.4), contested possessions (12.2) and clearances (3.5), while also kicking a career-high six goals.
Senior coach Daisy Pearce said it’s exciting that Roberts’ best is still yet to come.
“Ella’s weapons and natural instincts for the game are incredible,” Pearce said.
“She brings so much excitement to the competition and it’s a privilege to get to see her do what she does up close.
“It’s been awesome to see her start to make the connection between the consistency of her training and how that translates to her impact across four quarters and the season.
“As coaches, we love working with someone as competitive as Ella and who, at only 19 years of age, is really driven to see the team succeed, and she’s only just getting started.”
The 2024 All-Australian panel consists of Andrew Dillon (Chair), Gemma Bastiani, Jason Bennett, Sarah Black, Laura Kane, Katie Loynes, Josh Mahoney, Emma Moore, Erin Phillips, Eliza Reilly, Narelle Smith, Kelli Underwood and Megan Waters.
