Gale force winds in Yanchep set the scene for a tough match against West Perth.
“Really strong effort from our players, but just lacking a little bit of polish still," West Coast Eagles WAFL coach Daniel Pratt explained.
“We’re just building that connection with our WAFL-listed players and we had eight players playing their first game for the club, both the AFL-listed and the WAFL-listed.
“We’ve got a lot to learn from each other about how each other play and from that point of view, it’s really exciting."
Find out how the Eagles' AFL-listed players performed below:
Alex Witherden
Really strong performance down back. Defended well under difficult circumstances and got a bit of the ball.
Luke Edwards
Had a number of clearances, some really clean ones, got out of the stoppages really well. He was probably one of the better performers on the day.
Harry Edwards
Had a slow start but really fought back. His contest with (West Perth forward) Tyler Keitel probably broke even at the end of the day, so that was well done by him.
Luke Foley
Had a fair bit of ball across half-back, set up some attacking opportunities for us as well.
Brayden Ainsworth
Had 36 touches and worked hard through the midfield all day, really tough in the contest.
Zane Trew
Played against a really experienced WAFL midfield which was also a great experience for him. He really held his own.
Zac Langdon
Had about 20 touches across half forward and through the midfield, they put a fair bit of time into him but he was able to work through that, get some opportunities and finish with a goal.
Bailey Williams
Little bit rusty early, first game. But I thought he worked his way into the game really well and took a couple of strong contested marks.
Callum Jamieson
Competed really well when he was both in the ruck and forward, continued to grow on his first game last week so I’m pleased with that.
