West Coast Eagles AFLW coach Daniel Pratt thought his team’s performance was ‘competitive’ in the first quarter of Sunday's RAC Derby defeat.

Unfortunately, the side were unable to gain any reward for effort.

“We owned the field position, the first five minutes I think we really dominated, we looked really dangerous with the ball, probably just a bit of misfortune and being unlucky with some shots close to the goal line.” Pratt said.

The team now head into a new week, where they’ll further focus on football education.

Pratt sending a reminder that the team are still young, and in their second year in the league.

“We’ve been working a lot on our game, what our game style is and brand, we just haven’t been able to find the right ingredient for that yet.” Pratt said.

“I think we’re pouring a lot into the jug of football and education and sometimes it’s going to overflow.”

With three games against Geelong, Richmond and St Kilda to finish the season, Pratt said the team must concentrate on the fundamentals of football.

“I think we’ve just got to focus on getting better each week, I think we can be competitive," Pratt said.

"If we get a couple of wins on the way that would be great, but that’s probably not the bigger picture.”
