Precise ball movement was the name of the game as West Coast hit the training track at Mineral Resources Park on Wednesday morning - watched on by a former Eagles great.
With almost a full cohort in main training, coach Adam Simpson took charge of a 90-minute session which involved plenty of running although, pleasingly for the players, most of it was with the Sherrin in hand.
Following some tackling craft work there was goalkicking practice at the clubrooms end, where retired premiership forward Mark LeCras was keeping a keen eye on proceedings and catching up with old mates with son Rex in tow.
After missing Monday’s session due to illness and jury duty, respectively, star bookends Josh Kennedy and Jeremy McGovern were back on deck, while dual club champion Elliot Yeo showed more progress in his build towards main training.
Yeo completed some change of direction running after joining in the warm-up and powered through some laps of the MCG-sized oval as the main squad split into three ‘teams’ for a drill focused on moving the ball or defending the length of the field.
Speed demon Jack Petruccelle looked in fine touch during the skills work, breaking into space and linking up with his run, while Daniel Venables had a smile on his face during the tough session – his second back at the club this year after recently exiting quarantine - and recruits Zac Langdon and Alex Witherden continued building chemistry with their new teammates.
