He might have been recruited to wreak havoc in the forward line, but new Eagle Zac Langdon was not afraid to reveal his midfield ambitions while fronting the media in blue and gold for the first time today.
And for that reason the 25-year-old former Giant was particularly pleased to see West Coast skipper Luke Shuey out on the training track at Mineral Resources Park this morning.
Shuey was to sole senior Eagle to start the 2021 pre-season alongside the club's second- to fourth-year players today.
Langdon said he was looking forward to picking the 2018 Norm Smith medallist’s brain at every opportunity during his first summer slog as an Eagle.
“I had a chat with him after and kind of just asked him why he was here and it’s quite obvious that he really wants to get the most out of this year and meet the young boys as well,” Langdon said.
“To see the captain down there, it’s pretty inspiring. I just want to put my best foot forward and show him that I want a place in this team.
“I think I’ve been brought in as a forward, but I really want to get into the midfield.
“He’s a really big contested beast and I can learn a lot off him for sure.”
While shadowing Shuey was high on Langdon’s priority list, his first goal was a simple one: to earn the trust of his new teammates.
Langdon said he intended to do that by putting in the hard yards on the training track.
“I really just want to put my head down and earn the respect of the boys,” Langdon said.
“Hopefully I can do that early.
“I’m looking forward to just getting some good relationships with the young boys and then obviously the older boys will come back after Christmas.
“It will be good to meet them and go from there.”
