The West Coast Eagles are set to host two marquee WA matches next season at Optus Stadium after the AFL released the 2025 fixture on Thursday.

In round six, the Eagles will feature in a twilight clash on Good Friday (April 18) against Essendon, followed by a WA Day eve match against Geelong in round 12 on June 1.

Immediately following the Geelong game, the Eagles will continue with a run of games in WA, with the team headed to Bunbury for a historic regional WA ‘away’ clash against North Melbourne at Hands Oval (round 13, June 8).

West Coast will then take on Carlton at Optus Stadium (round 14, June 15) before the bye.

“Some good highlights in the fixture. We’ve got a game on Good Friday against Essendon and hopefully we get a big crowd there for that,” West Coast Eagles CEO Don Pyke said.

“WA Day we play Geelong and we’re hoping to make that game around WA Day an annual marquee game for the club.

“Then the North Melbourne game at Hands Oval in Bunbury becomes a bonus extra home game for us, and we look forward to taking the footy to the South West where we’ve got a lot of ardent and passionate supporters.”

In a positive start for WA members and fans, the Eagles will open their season at home against Gold Coast (Sunday, March 16) before hosting the first RAC Derby in round three (Sunday, March 30).

Next up, the team will travel to take on Greater Western Sydney at ENGIE Stadium (round four, April 6) before continuing the road trip by flying direct to Adelaide to prepare for the Gather Round game against Carlton (April 12) six days later.

The club made this request through the AFL to minimise some of the travel challenges across the season.

“We asked to stay over after the game in Sydney on a Sunday, and then we will travel to Adelaide for some training ahead of the Gather Round game,” Pyke said.

“Post this we will travel back to Perth on the Saturday night to ready ourselves for the Good Friday game.”

Team

All 10 of the club’s interstate games have been scheduled in the major cities of Australia.

West Coast will play one match at the MCG against Richmond (round nine, May 11), four games at Marvel Stadium, three games at Adelaide Oval and early season games in round two in Brisbane and round four against the Giants.

“We are still going to travel a lot, we accept that, but from a travel viewpoint it looks positive,” Pyke said.

The Eagles have also avoided any five-day breaks in the opening 14 rounds.

“We’re fortunate we’ve drawn only three six-day breaks – two of those will into Gather Round and the Good Friday game,” Pyke said.

“That’s significant in terms of player preparation and recovery and getting our young squad out on the park to play good footy.”

The AFL has only revealed the full fixture for the opening 15 rounds and left the times and dates of the final nine rounds to be announced later.

Other features of the 2025 fixture:

  • Double-up matches against Adelaide, Carlton, Fremantle, GWS, Melbourne and Richmond
  • The club’s away RAC Derby is scheduled for round 20
  • One Friday night match, two Saturday games and 11 fixtures on Sundays
  • West Coast will play five matches post the bye on the run home at Optus Stadium.
  • Two of the opening 14 games – against Geelong and North Melbourne in rounds 12 and 13 – will be broadcast nationally on the Seven Network
