One of the most highly-credentialed players in recent WAFL history has joined the West Coast Eagles coaching staff.

Immediately after retiring from a remarkable career at Subiaco, revered midfielder Kyal Horsley has joined the Eagles as a development coach.

Horsley, who also played at the highest level, winning the ‘Most Professional’ and ‘Iron Man’ awards at Gold Coast in 2012, suffered a serious knee injury and was delisted by the Suns in 2013.

He returned to Subiaco as captain in 2014 and carved out a remarkable career, playing in five premierships and winning four Outridge Medals as the club’s fairest and best. He was also the Simpson medallist in the 2018 grand final and was three times runner-up in the Sandover Medal.

General Manager – Football Craig Vozzo said that the appointment of Horsley was exciting and he was looking forward to the 33-year-old working closely to progress the club’s young players.

"Clearly Kyal has great credentials as a player and worked extremely hard to get the best out of his personal career. He built a reputation as an outstanding leader, spending five years as captain of Subiaco," Vozzo said.

"Coming to our club having just announced his retirement as a player, he obviously has strong insights into the modern game.

"He comes from one of the best systems of all the state league competitions in Australia and impressed us with his knowledge of the game, his passion to coach and improve himself and others."
