It was a career-best season for the hulking defender, whose superb campaign anchoring the backline was recognised by a fourth-placed finish in the John Worsfold Medal count. Barrass was one of six Eagles to play every game and while his marking prowess, defensive work opposed to some of the game’s elite key forwards and safe ball use has been obvious across his six seasons, this was his most consistent campaign so far. It was no surprise the 25-year-old was honoured with the Trademark Award. Barrass’ commitment to doing the team thing at all times is undeniable. He led the League for spoils and was ranked second for one percenters this year, but also showed plenty of flair with towering grabs nominated for Mark of the Year in successive weeks in rounds five and six.

Standout performance:

West Coast ruled the skies in its round 12 triumph over Hawthorn at Optus Stadium, and nobody stood taller than Barrass. He pulled down a game-high nine grabs, with eight intercepts and 19 disposals in the comfortable 32-point win, earning himself top marks from the coaches in the club champion voting. With four-time All Australian Jeremy McGovern back in the side and doing his thing, the Eagles dominated the airways as they extended their winning streak to seven matches.
