Lively half-forward Ashton Hams and pugnacious defender Pat McGinnity could play WAFL finals this weekend despite leaving with the West Coast travelling party for Saturday’s qualifying final against Collingwood.

Hams and McGinnity have been named as emergencies, along with developing defender Brad Sheppard and with the WAFL finals being played on Sunday, they will not miss out on a game at the weekend.

Should they not be required at the MCG, they will return with their teammates on Saturday night and prepare to play for their respective WAFL clubs.

Hams’ club, South Fremantle plays Subiaco in the knockout first semi-final at Medibank Stadium, while McGinnity’s Claremont combination will play West Perth in the second semi-final at Claremont Oval.

Callum Wilson will also play for the Bulldogs with Hams, while McGinnity will have plenty of company in the Claremont team.

Regulars for the Tigers, Tom Swift, Brett Jones, Lewis Stevenson and Gerrick Weedon will play in Claremont’s senior team while developing forwards Jeremy McGovern and Anton Hamp will play reserves.

The only West Coast-listed player who will play for West Perth is Andrew Strijk.

The club has opted to rest a number of players who could have been eligible to play with East Fremantle reserves, while injured wingman Matt Rosa requires another week before he will be ready to resume.
