A series of WAFL byes and a Foxtel Cup semi-final meant that it was a matter of quality rather quantity engaged in second tier action from a West Coast perspective on Saturday.

Only four players on the periphery of the senior team were engaged in matches for premiership points, but all four made handy contributions for their team, the outstanding effort coming from wingman Bradd Dalziell.

In his first league hit-out for East Fremantle after recovering a knee injury sustained in the round three game against Greater Western Sydney, Dalziell was a livewire for the Sharks and key factor in his team’s solid victory against East Perth.

After injuring his knee against the Giants, Dalziell worked his way back through an onerous rehabilitation program and played two reserves games - one for Peel Thunder - as he embarked on gaining the required the match day fitness levels.

On Saturday, he had 31 disposals and finished off his work with three goals in a best-afield display.

Another exciting step forward was taken by live-wire forward Brad Dick, who kicked two goals from 10 possessions, but equally important was the defensive pressure he applied in East Fremantle’s forward half.

The brilliant small forward is growing in confidence and stature with every outing and is enjoying his time in the middle.

In the reserves, Callum Papertalk had 10 possessions playing half-forward and wing from limited ground time.

Meanwhile, Andrew Strijk continued his good touch with West Perth and was an important factor in the Falcons hanging to win over a fast-finishing South Fremantle.

Strijk had 22 touches, four marks and five tackles and kicked a goal in another solid performance for the Falcons.
