The Eagles Rock My School (ERMS) program has now been a part of primary schools in WA since 2004. With an annual reach of nearly 200 schools, it has become a highlight for young students all over the state. The consolidation and expansion of the program has come through the significant and valued support of BHP Billiton.
In 2012, we have been able to further increase our reach. Toyota WA have come on board to enable us to take ERMS to more regional and rural communities. This program is called Border Patrol. Nine legs of Border Patrol will take us from the Great Southern, to the Pilbara and Kimberley, to the Wheatbelt and South West and to the Coral Coast. In short, across the length and breadth of WA. We will drop in to over 120 schools and communities, as well as engaging with all of the local population through events at Toyota dealerships.
Border Patrol is headed by Ross Glendenning, West Coast’s inaugural captain and Brownlow Medallist, as well as everyone’s favourite mascot, Rick the Rock Eagle.
Having completed tours, schools are asked to return surveys so the club can assess the success of the program. Schools who return surveys go into the draw for a signed West Coast Eagles football.
The winners from Leg One (Great Southern) and Leg Two (Kimberley) are:
Braeside Primary School , Katanning - Louise McCarley
East Manjimup Primary School -Jeremy Hadlow
Roebuck Primary School (Broome) - Tracey Evans
We would like to sincerely thank all of the schools and communities we have visited so far and look forward to our next trips.
Sincere thanks also to Toyota WA and BHP Billiton for enabling Border Patrol to reach so many corners of WA.
