While the West Coast Eagles focuses heavily on achieving on-field success it also has a strong commitment towards making a difference in the community.

And when three of the club’s senior players - Dean Cox, Adam Selwood and Luke Shuey - were involved in a school holiday coaching clinic at Cook Reserve in Morley today, they took the opportunity to present a signed guernsey to Mt Lawley Primary School principal, Don Barba.

Mt Lawley Primary was subjected to an arson attack last weekend, meaning that when students return to school on Monday week, they will have to attend classes at Mt Lawley High School.

Cox, Selwood and Shuey all have ties to East Perth, the WAFL club conducting the clinic in Morley, and with children from Mt Lawley involved it was seen as an opportunity to lend support.

“Education for children is obviously very important,” Cox said. “So if we can help in any small way to rebuild the school, then we will do that.

“Obviously, it is going to take a strong community effort to get the school back to the point it was and hopefully this signed jumper will assist the fundraising cause.”

Mt Lawley Primary School celebrated its centenary in March, so much of its history has been lost, but the club will assist wherever possible in the resumption of classes at the school.
