Brown steers Sharks to GF
Key defender Mitch Brown restricted star Swan Districts forward Ash Hansen to just one goal
And a man with the lowest possession count was probably best of them all.
Key defender Mitch Brown had only three touches, but restricted star Swan Districts forward - and former teammate - Ash Hansen to just one goal which proved a major factor in the performance.
Forward Brad Dick, midfielder Koby Stevens and wingman Bradd Dalziell were also strong contributors in pushing the Sharks to victory, giving the Steve Malaxos-coached East Fremantle the opportunity to do battle with Claremont in this week’s grand final.
Dick kicked three goals in a telling display, further building on a confidence-boosting end to the season, while Stevens had 23 possessions, was tough in and under and worked hard defensively, and Dalziell wielded a strong influence over the outcome.
He started in white-hot form with a 10 possession first term and sustained that effort throughout, finishing with 29 disposals, six marks and seven tackles.
Young forward Murray Newman, playing for Swan Districts, failed to have the impact he might have expected, but will no doubt benefit from the experience.
He had 11 touches and three tackles, playing through the midfield and forward.
Rookie Callum Papertalk had six possessions when East Fremantle beat Perth in the reserves.
A bonus for the Sharks is that exciting young defender Jacob Brennan is available for the grand final, playing more than the requisite five games (he played six) to qualify.
