West Coast Eagles champion and Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis will be honoured throughout 2025 as the club’s official WAFL Ball Legend.
One of the WAFL’s greatest success stories, Priddis was famously overlooked in three national drafts despite dominating for Subiaco.
The in-and-under midfielder was finally given a chance on the Eagles’ rookie list as a 20-year-old and went on to become a club great.
“The WAFL is an elite competition which allows all players the opportunity to play at the highest level possible,” Priddis said.
“It keeps the door open for the players who aspire to take the next step. I have some amazing memories of my time in the WAFL and I’m very grateful for this honour.”
Priddis debuted in one of the club’s most memorable victories – the comeback from 54 points down at Geelong in 2006 – and while he missed out on the AFL premiership that year, he claimed the Sandover Medal and a WAFL premiership with the Lions.
From there, the tough left-footer never looked back, cementing himself as an AFL regular and a model of consistency.
Priddis racked up accolades almost as easily as clearances and handballs, becoming a John Worsfold medallist in 2013, Brownlow medallist the next year and All-Australian in 2015.
He was also runner-up Club Champion on four occasions and finished top 10 in the count for 11 consecutive seasons between 2007-17.
Priddis retired with 240 AFL games to his name and was inducted into West Coast’s Hall of Fame in 2023.
“Matt left a wonderful legacy at our football club and was a tremendous role model for younger players as a footballer who got the best out of himself,” CEO Don Pyke said.
“He is a great of our club and the WAFL competition, and we are delighted he will be the club’s Ball Legend for each of our WAFL Eagles home games in 2025.”
