Arguably West Coast Eagles eldest fan at 99 years of age, Ellen Strickland received one of the highlights of her life this morning when veteran backman David Wirrpanda greeted her at the entrance of club headquarters before she was able to watch the squad’s training session at Subiaco Oval.
Accompanied by her daughter Betty, Ellen was thrilled when she was able to hold the 2006 Premiership Cup and talk to David Wirrpanda about the new players in the squad.
“I yell out to the TV saying go curly locks and then now there is a new dark-haired curly locks,” said Ellen Strickland.
Wirrpanda reasoned that Ellen must be referring to Matthew Priddis and Nic Naitanui.
Ellen entertained Wirrpanda with stories from when she was growing up on a farm with her six daughters who all now know the meaning of hard work and living off the land.
Following Wirrpanda’s visit, Ellen and Betty dropped into the West Coast Eagles Team Store where they purchased beanies and scarves. Now they were all set to watch the Eagles train.
Ellen and Betty remarked that they had never seen the players up this close and were very excited to be a part of it.
