The mood was set by the gentle hum of the didgeridoo when 300 guests joined the David Wirrpanda Foundation for their annual fundraising dinner on Thursday, November 19.
Held at Fraser’s Restaurant in the picturesque Kings Park, overlooking the Swan River, the foundation impressed all its guests with auctions, surprise announcements and entertainment to remember.
Long-time supporter of the foundation and Network Ten identity Narelda Jacobs was the MC for the evening and her skills at the microphone was only upstaged by David Wirrpanda’s partner, Shannon McGuire, when she announced the couple’s engagement.
Two raffles were held, where the prizes were a selection of Perth Mint coins specially designed by an Indigenous artist and a framed photo piece and replica Melbourne Cup signed by Damien Oliver.
The mentors of the David Wirrpanda Foundation were later given the spotlight when Narelda held a Q & A with each of them, allowing them to explain the many and varied programs the Foundation has to offer.
Entertainment was provided by the Balga Girls and Balga Boys Dance Group of which the Foundation is a sponsor.
After chef Chris Taylor served an extravagant main course, the auction was underway. Three of the top prizes were the West Coast Eagles captain’s memorabilia piece, which was signed by all of the club’s captains. An all expenses paid trip to beautiful Bali also saw the hammer come down raising a lot of money.
Lastly, a necklace co-designed by David Wirrapanda and Rohans Jewellery which was made from volcanic rock, black and white diamonds and set in platinum gold also found a new home.
Foundation chief executive officer Lisa Cunningham was delighted with the turn out and strong show of support for the organisation.
“The food was wonderful, the entertainment was fantastic and we raised a lot of money for the foundation which will all go towards helping Indigenous youth reach their potential,” said Cunningham.
The David Wirrpanda Foundation promotes strong role models and healthy life choices for Indigenous children in Western Australia. The foundation would like to thank all who donated items for the night and supported the money raising initiatives so the foundation can continue its positive work in our community.
