Last week, the wives and girlfriends of West Coast Eagles players enjoyed a Girls Night In to raise funds for one of the club’s charity partners, Cancer Council Western Australia.

Girls Night In, an event run by Cancer Council to raise funds for women’s cancers, calls on women to stay in during October, with every dollar they save donated to Cancer Council to support newly diagnosed patients and fund research into the causes of women’s cancers.

Hannah Waters, wife of Eagles vice-captain Beau Waters, said that holding a girls night in was a great opportunity for the women to get together, and to raise awareness of some of the forms of women’s cancers that don’t have high profiles.

“It’s a really good way for us to show our support for women and their families who have been affected by women’s cancers,” she said.

The other wives and partners of Eagles stars who congregated for a night in on the Waters’ couch were Emily Marshall (partner of Mark LeCras), Kerry Lavell (partner of Dean Cox), Lauren Leclerc (partner of Brett Jones) and Rayne Embley. Meredith, wife of Eagles assistant coach Phil Walsh, also went along and was excited to be a part of the event.

Cancer Council WA hopes to raise more than $400,000 from the event to help the 17,000 women diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer in Australia each year.
