West Coast legends Dean Kemp, Phil Matera, Adrian Barich, Ashley McIntosh, Nathan McIntosh, Peter Wilson, Michael Brennan, Tony Evans, Don Pyke, Chris Waterman, Dwayne Lamb, Drew Banfield, Paul Peos, Mitch White, Brett Jones and Rowan Jones will reunite on Sunday, May 6 when West Coast takes on the Kangaroos, all in the name of charity.
The Eagles veterans will be lending a hand for the Medibank Coats For A Cause match day for the second year running.
The West Coast Eagles Football Club, as well as these philanthropic past players, are encouraging all West Coast members, supporters and fans attending the round six clash to bring along and donate a coat or warm article of clothing to assist those in need this winter.
The former West Coast stars will be stationed around Patersons Stadium at this Sunday’s match to receive clothing donations for the worthy cause.
All donations will be directed to CharityLink, a collaborative charity organisation which aims to make a difference to thousands of disadvantaged Western Australians experiencing financial hardship or crisis.
Former West Coast midfielder and dual premiership player Don Pyke says after the success of last year’s inaugural Medibank Coats for a Cause match day, the past players are right behind this initiative and ready to do it all again this season.
“We had a great response from the West Coast Eagles members and fans last year and thanks to their generosity, we collected more than 5,000 articles of clothing to help WA’s homeless and disadvantaged,” said Pyke.
“It was fantastic for us, as past players, to be able to support the wider community and interact with the members and supporters who clearly have fond memories of the past success of our club. I think we all went away from last year’s event with a good feeling after having been a part of something that made a difference.
“With the awareness created from last year's Coats for a Cause, we are hopeful more members and fans will bring along something to help those in need this winter.
“Many of you will have an old coat, jacket or jumper in the cupboard at home that hasn't been worn for years, or that you or the kids have grown out of. So we are asking you to dig it out, bring it to the game this weekend against the Kangaroos and drop it off at one of the collection points, so we can help those who face a bleak winter.
“For those members who generously emptied their old coats supply last year, we will also gladly accept any rugs, blankets or sleeping bags that can help keep someone warm.”
The West Coast Eagles past players will be stationed at Gates 8, 10, 19 and 26 this Sunday from 1.30pm to accept fans’ donations.
