Rick's Footy Blog: Round Five
How is everyone feeling after last weekend’s nail-biter? Birds don’t have nails, but if I did, I totes would have chewed them right off.
Let’s review! Fellas, well done. I must admit, the boys did have me pretty nervous for the entire first half when they didn’t kick a single goal. I never ever doubt the mighty West Coast Eagles, but I’ll be honest, I was keen for Woosh to sub me in during that first half because I reckon I could have kicked straighter.
But I shouldn’t have worried, it was all good. After the half- time break, newbie Josh Hill came to the rescue and booted our first goal. And we were off!
It was a bit tense though wasn’t it, that last quarter. Just when I thought we were home, that sneaky Cyril Rioli kicking two goals in the space of six minutes. I was pretty keen to find out who the person is who rings the siren and paying them to press the button for me and call it a day. But well done to the boys for hanging on and edging out the Hawks. It was a toughie, and was definitely a test for us this season.
So this weekend we’ve got Richmond at Etihad. The Tigers have had a rough start to the season, facing off against Collingwood, Carlton and Geelong, losing to all three. Their only victory so far has been against the Demons in round three, when they demolished them by 59 points.
The ladder suggests an easy victory for us, with West Coast sitting at the number one spot and Richmond at 13. But I don’t think we should be getting complacent. The Tigers put up spirited performances against the in-form Pies, Cats and Blues. And our only victory in Melbourne so far was against the Bulldogs, who do seem to be struggling a bit this year.
So Richmond at Etihad is going to be a real test for us. But I reckon we’re all good! We’ve got Sam Butler returning to the side this week, and Luke Shuey is proving what a tough-nut and team player he is, coming back for this week’s game after that painful-looking shoulder bump from Clinton Young last weekend.
So seeing as there are no massive changes to the team that defeated the Hawks, my tip this week is with the mighty West Coast Eagles.
