The lure of earning a call-up to AFL ranks was no longer a carrot for West Coast Eagles players competing in the final round of WAFL fixtures, but they still maintained the high standards achieved during the 2009 season.

Experienced defender Brett Jones enjoyed the opportunity to work back from soft tissue problems to squeeze out another game, Ashley Smith capped off his first season of football in the west while Will Schofield was a stand-out in a struggling Peel combination.

In addition to that Tyson Stenglein, Callum Wilson, Adam Hunter and Mark Seaby showed they will be important players for their respective teams during the finals series which starts this weekend.

Claremont v Perth

Brett Jones: A solid game by Jones, who had 20 possessions and eight marks. Was understandably rusty at the start of the game, but worked his way into the contest and provided plenty of run.

Lewis Stevenson: After a slow start, which was symptomatic  of Claremont, Stevenson finished strong and was instrumental in helping Claremont get back into the game. Finished with 19 possessions to round out a good finish to the season.

Beau Wilkes: Was at his best in the last quarter when he was pushed forward, provided a strong target and kicked two goals. Collected 19 possessions and eight marks in a good effort.

Ashley Smith: Looked lively up forward particularly in the first quarter. He timed his leads well and finished with 10 marks. He spent long periods at full-forward and because he was so deep, his running capacity was limited. Good finish to his first season of senior football.

Will Sullivan: A very quiet game where he was out maneuvered in the ruck on most occasions and finished with just nine hit outs.

Swan Districts v South Fremantle

Adam Hunter: Played across half-back in the first half and then was shifted to the full back line on Mugambwa and Graham. Was at his best in the third quarter when playing forward and taking five marks.  Took 10 marks and picked up 18 possessions for the match.

Tony Notte: Played mainly across half-forward with a short time deeper. Did not have a profound influence on the game, although in the final term took a couple of good marks on lead, passed the ball and result was two goals to Swans.

Callum Wilson: Played at full-forward on Ames and had too much pace for him, finishing with four goals from seven shots on goal.  Was at his best in the first half when he was active, his attack on the ball was good and he was prepared to work back towards goal when not used.

West Perth v Subiaco

Mark Seaby: Started the game very well with seven possessions in the first quarter. He was quieter after half time but his ruck work was very important in West Perth’s come back in the third term.  Several good repeated efforts were also important.

Tyson Stenglein: A solid four-quarter contribution where he was strong in the contest and clean with his hands. He set up a number of good passages of play for his team.

East Fremantle v Peel

Will Schofield: Played in a variety of roles, displaying his versatility, but would probably have enjoyed settling into one role. Worked hard for his team and was high on Peel’s best player list with 23 possessions and seven marks.

Jordan Jones: Jordan played full-back, wing, half-back and half-forward as Peel searched for ways to be competitive. Conceded size when playing at full-back, which made it tough.

Ashley Arrowsmith:After a good possession rate in the first half he drifted out of the game as Peel struggled to stay with East Fremantle. Did some good things, but needs to complete his games.
