Subiaco advance to another WAFL Grand Final in hopes of clinching their fourth straight flag
West Coast midfielders Tyson Stenglein and Chad Fletcher were both influential, particularly when the Lions scored seven goals in the third term.
Swan Districts were also well served by West Coast players, with Ashley Hansen and Ryan Davis the stand-out contributors.
Subiaco will now challenge South Fremantle for the 2009 premiership, with Stenglein and Fletcher representing the Lions, while rookie Callum Wilson looms as a key player for the Bulldogs.
Subiaco v Swan Districts
Ryan Davis
Started on interchange and played a half-forward and midfield role. Had a good impact and influence in midfield with a strong attack on ball and the contest. Generally used the ball well and was among his team’s best.
Adam Hunter
Hunter played at centre half-back on Mapleston for three quarters and the Subiaco forward kicked three goals on him. He was moved forward in the last quarter and typically, in his last game of football gave 100%, although severely restricted.
Ashley Hansen
Hansen led strongly from full-forward, took several good marks and although he missed several set shots in the windy conditions he was always dangerous. Took five marks and Swans seemed to keen to get the ball to him one-out, where he was generally the master of his opponents.
Tony Notte
After starting at half-forward, he took time to work his way into the game to be a solid contributor for his team. His tackling and second efforts were a feature, while his clean hands and smart decision making were also pleasing.
Nic Naitanui
Nick went into the game with a corked thigh and he appeared restricted by this during the game. He played deep forward, in the ruck and at centre half-forward. While he was creative with his handball there were times when he could have kicked. His 17 hit outs was a good return in the ruck.
Tyson Stenglein
Solid, unobtrusive performance in midfield, but everything he did impacted on the game, particularly in the first half when Subiaco established control. He wielded most influence and impact on the game in the second quarter when he kicked a goal and had a hand in two others. Used his body well.
Chad Fletcher
Another sustained effort of hard-running through the midfield to be among the best afield. Racked up 29 possessions and consistently sent his team deep into attack. Also brought teammates into the game with his efficient ball use, by both hand and foot. An outstanding contributor.
