Opportunities at AFL level might be drying up with just round remaining, but West Coast-listed players continue to excel in the WAFL competition, with several keen to impact the local finals series.

Experienced forward Ashley Hansen made a terrific return to football after a two-month battle with a hip injury, while Ryan Neates, Beau Wilkes, Lewis Stevenson and Tom Swift were prominent for Claremont.

Subiaco will not play finals, but Adam Cockie was a solid contributor for the Lions, while East Perth pair Ben McKinley and Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls played their part in keeping alive the Royals’ finals dream.

Claremont v West Perth

Ryan Neates
Continues to build on his good form, playing as a wingman, half-forward or through the midfield. Accumulated possessions, and was a good contributor for the Tigers. Neates maintained his good tackle rate and was involved in some goal assists.

Beau Wilkes
Another solid performance at at half-back for the Tigers, where her out-pointed his opponent, Jack Darling. He took some strong contested marks, read the play well and was responsible for setting Claremont on their winning way. Wilkes played last 10 minutes of the game at centre half-forward.

Lewis Stevenson
Stevenson played as a deep defender and later moved out to half-back and on to a wing. He was efficient in the majority of his one on one contests, showed a good change of pace on a number of occasions and was among Claremont’s best. Another good performance where his ball use was a highlight.

Tom Swift
Suffered an injury during the course of the match, but played through to be an effective player for Claremont. Generally used the ball effectively in his 20 disposals and eight marks.

Gerrick Weedon (reserves)
Worked hard throughout the game, continuing to build on good recent form.

Lewis Broome (reserves)
Looked very lively, his touch was good and he tackled very well, clamping on eight for the game. Took the game on really well.

Swan Districts v Perth

Tony Notte
Started in ruck and played 10 minutes each quarter in that role, where he did well with his tap outs. He then ventured forward, mostly across half-forward and took some good contested marks. His ball use and decision making was good.

Ashley Hansen
In his first game back after a two-month absence, Hansen did well, especially on the lead. He took 10 marks and could easily have kicked six goals, missing three one would expect him to convert. Worked well with fellow forwards.

East Perth v Subiaco

Ben McKinley
McKinley started the game on ball, but was shifted forward during the opening term. His intensity and work rate was good and was at his best in the third quarter kicking two goals. At the end of the day, Ben finished with three goals.

Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
Jarrad played half-forward and his ball handling was better. He worked hard to be involved in the contested ball situation, with five of eight of his marks contested.  At times Jarrad showed great speed when carrying the ball. And he was an important player for the Royals.

Adam Cockie
Returned to senior football and played on ball as part of his team’s rotation. His work rate was good and as usual he was a very good inside player at ball-ups, where he won a lot of his possessions.  Adam was very strong in traffic and gave it off by hands to a teammate in a better position.
