Home might be where the heart is, but Adam Simpson says it’s not where the Eagles’ heads are at ahead of tomorrow’s clash with the Crows.

West Coast’s senior coach said his side was 100 per cent focused on beating Adelaide, who he believed posed a real threat in spite of their winless start to 2020.

“We’ve really got to concentrate on Adelaide and trying to get our third win of the season,” Simpson told the media at Royal Pines Resort today.

“That’s in the future, getting back to Perth, the RAC Derby and all that sort of stuff, but it’s secondary to tomorrow.

“Adelaide, they’ve got a lot of pride in their club and a lot of history and they’ll be out to win as well.

“I thought for three quarters last week they were exceptional. They had every opportunity to win that game.

“Their youth coming through probably hasn’t clicked for them yet, but you can see the signs. When you actually code these games and look at it, I’ve seen improvement every week that I’ve watched their games.

"We’re definitely not taking this game lightly at all. We’ve had one good game and they’ve had patches and haven’t had a win.

“I see it as a really, really big challenge for us.”

Speaking of youth, Simpson and his match committee brought in a couple of emerging talents of their own to play crucial roles tomorrow.

The selection panel recalled third-year midfielder Brayden Ainsworth to cover the loss of hamstrung captain Luke Shuey and picked livewire forward Jarrod Cameron to fill the void left by the injured Jamaine Jones.

Simpson said he was excited to see the dynamic duo get another opportunity at the highest level after overcoming minor bouts of adversity.

Ainsworth has not managed to break into the top team since Round 16, 2018, while a lingering groin injury threatened to derail Cameron’s 2020 campaign following a promising debut season that featured seven AFL appearances.

“Ainsworth, I mentioned to the boys just then, no one works harder than him on his craft,” Simpson offered.

“He deserves his spot. He’s got high end endurance and repeat speed, he’s tough and he’s role-driven, so we’ve got a really clear role for him which he’s aware of. I’m really proud that he’s back in the side.

“Jarrod has been dealing with a bit of osteitis (pubis) and getting some fitness, so it’s been a long process. To see him back in the side is great.

“We’ve kind of missed that type of player who can put some pressure on, play on instinct and bring a bit of skill as well.

“He’s a good addition to the side.”

West Coast might have only mustered one win from their time in Queensland to date, but Simpson reckoned they might reap some benefits from their hub experience later in the year.

He was adamant the side had taken big strides in an off-field capacity and felt that was finally starting to show in their on-field performances.

“We’ve had a lot of growth internally. The opportunity we’ve had to grow inside this hub has been really good,” Simpson said.

“We haven’t performed to the levels we’ve wanted to, but everything I suppose has been on ‘turbo mode’ in terms of what we’ve been trying to do and plan and worth through. We’re starting to see some better signs on field, but some of the growth off field we’ve seen has been really positive.

“I thought we saw good signs last week with the way we want to play. That’s how we’ll start this week and hopefully we can perform like that all game.”
