Hub life on the Gold Coast has not gone according to plan for the Eagles thus far, but Elliot Yeo says the group are optimistic about reversing their fortunes before returning to Perth in a fortnight.

Speaking to 96FM’s Botica’s Bunch breakfast program this morning, Yeo admitted the club was in a tough spot after dropping three games since relocating to Queensland.

But he said spirits remained high within the hub and that he expected the Eagles to bounce back with a strong showing against Sydney this Saturday.

“It’s not ideal and I hate losing,” a candid Yeo conceded.

“We’re in a bit of a spot that you don’t want to be in, but in saying that in 2018 we lost three (games) in a row and ended up winning the flag.

“There’s still hope there and we’re working extremely hard up here to try and rectify a lot of things that we’ve been doing wrong.

“Hopefully we can implement that coming into the Sydney game.”

Experts of AFL pedigree and the armchair variety have been quick to blame West Coast’s midfield for the team’s current form slump, arguing the team’s contested play is not up to scratch.

Yeo acknowledged that his side’s work in the clinches needed to improve, but he said it was not the only issue plaguing the side at present.

“I’m pretty sure we won the contested ball against Port Adelaide, so it’s bigger (issues) than just contested footy. There’s more to it than that,” he said.

“The connection with our forwards, we need to get better at. We want to try and lock it in our forward line as much as possible and it seems to be coming out pretty quick.

“There is a variety of different things we need to work on and it’s not just contested ball. Winning the contested ball can only get you so far.

“We’ve got a lot to work on and a lot that we need to get right to win games of football. We’re training extremely hard to fix those cracks really.

“Hopefully we can implement (some changes) into the game and play four good quarters and come away with a win this week.”
