Hams, Dalziell shine
There has been a virtual guarantee in recent seasons that if Ashton Hams and Bradd Dalziell have played in the WAFL they have produced standout performances.
Both continued to build strong cases for inclusion in the round one AFL clash against Fremantle when they were shining lights for their respective teams.
Hams, playing almost exclusively in the forward half, kicked five goals for South Fremantle against Swan Districts while Dalziell racked up 26 possessions and nine marks when East Fremantle out-gunned Perth.
Both offer the match committee options and their names will certainly be discussed when the selectors sit down to ink in the first official team of the season.
East Fremantle controlled the game against Perth and Sharks defender Jacob Brennan was also under notice with a solid display in the back half.
Another player in good form is rookie-listed ruckman/forward Callum Sinclair, who continues to relish the environment of elite football. He had 24 possessions, seven marks and three goals for Subiaco against Claremont.
Fellow rookie-listed big man, Jeremy McGovern, was under notice for the Tigers. He also kicked three goals, playing forward and in the ruck and was a strong marking presence.
Perth pair Fraser McInnes and Simon Tunbridge worked hard in a forward line that found opportunities scarce, with Tunbridge kicking two goals.
2012 draftee Brant Colledge gave an indication of his versatility, playing half-forward and wing in the Perth reserves, as he gained important match play after having hip surgery shortly after joining the club.
Midfielder Mark Hutchings produced a solid first half for West Perth before being taken out of the game with a tight hamstring. To that stage he had racked up 11 possessions and laid three tackles. He is expected to be available this weekend for the opening round of the WAFL season.
