Recently re-signed young gun Brad Ebert visited Landsdale Primary School this morning as a part of the club’s Eagles Rock My School program.
Ebert joined former Eagle Brad Smith in the delivery of positive life messages to the Landsdale students which was followed by a skills clinic and reading session.
In an assembly presentation, Smith was able to demonstrate the “Five Rs”, being respect yourself (through exercising and eating healthy), respect others, respect the environment, reach out to your community and reach your potential (by applying yourself to school and other facets of your life).
Smith also demonstrated the “Five Fs” of fun, fitness, friends, family and football with the help of “Rick the Rock”, the entertaining and enthusiastic West Coast mascot.
Prizes and give-aways were also warmly welcomed by the students who received West Coast stickers, water bottles and teaching resources as well as other give-aways like Video Ezy vouchers and a football signed by the entire team.
The program, which visits over 220 schools each year, is proudly supported by BHP Billiton Iron Ore, and is a joint effort to help develop education through sport.
Eagles Rock My School reaches 50,000 students and 2000 teachers (and an undetermined amount of parents and younger siblings) and communicates many positive messages through Australia’s favourite game: football.
Ebert and Smith were able to share their combined football skills in a clinic on the school oval with a group of lucky Landsdale students who were keen to participate.
Lead by the youngster and Smith, they were able to teach the children some of the basic football skills which they can continue to build upon.
The students were able to get up close and personal with their role model and ask Ebert questions about his life so far in professional football.
Ebert said the whole experience was really rewarding and is a great chance for children to meet and interact with their sporting role models.
“At West Coast we are heavily involved in many community initiatives and I think it’s a great way to give back to a community that has never stopped supporting us,” said Ebert.
