Rick's Footy Blog: Round 16
It's the biggest week in WA footy, so who better to give his thoughts on the matter than WA Footy's biggest star, Rick The Rock Eagle! Here's his thoughts on the upcoming Cartlon Mid Derby.
13 points down with only a few minutes to go, even I was starting to get worried!
The wise head of Embers- our new super sub! The cool skills of Dalziell along with the sensational kicking skills of big JK- it doesn’t get any better than that!
What was really important in my opinion was the fact we finally got some reward for our effort over the last few weeks. Unfortunately you don’t get points for ‘honourable losses’, after going down narrowly to the Hawks and the Bombers, it was nice to see the boys sing the song after downing the Crows!
But now the big one is here, I’ve been limbering up all week, refining my dance moves, preparing myself and the boys mentally for the game. It’s Carlton Mid Derby time!
Round one this year was a big disappointment, we had most of the play in the first half but couldn’t capitalise. It cost us dearly in the end.
Sure we’ve got a few injuries, but I know the kids we’ve picked to play can shine now that they’ve got their chance.A huge congratulations has to go to Cale Morton and Adam Carter who have been included into the squad, a huge chance to play their first game in the blue & gold. Well done boys!
Freo are in fantastic form, but are they vulnerable this week? Big loss against Geelong and then pushed all the way by the Saints last week, I reckon we’re a huge chance.
If we continue to bring the same level of intensity, I think we can break through the Freo defence and kick a winning score.
It’s also multicultural round this weekend, so a big shout out to people from all cultures and upbringings, and a huge thank you for the terrific contribution they make to our great game.
An extra congratulations to the West Coast Eagles on the most represented side in the ‘Multicultural Team of Champions’ during the week. John Worsfold, Glen Jakovich, Peter Matera and Daniel Kerr all made the side which was named on Tuesday. Great effort!
So go on boys, give those Dockers a touch up this Sunday, and hopefully kick-start our charge to September!
Love always,
Rick
