Shuey is a class act, showed great dash through the midfield and set up many of the opportunities that saw West Coast hit the scoreboard – particularly in the third term when they piled on 11 goals.
The dynamic midfielder had 27 possessions and his lace-out disposal to the forwards – particularly Josh Kennedy – was a key factor in the 52-point victory.
A few weeks ago, Kennedy suggested that Shuey was the most reliable kick inside the attacking 50 and yesterday’s effort would support that claim.
He is elite with his foot skills and a few times Kennedy was able to get separation on his opponent, he did not need to break stride as he accepted a precise pass from Shuey.
Kennedy finished with eight goals and was only marginally shaded by his chief supplier for best-on-ground honours.
The other link in that chain was the ruckmen, with Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett dominant around the stoppages.
Shuey’s understanding with Naitanui is uncanny and he will be looking to develop a similar rapport with Lycett, who played one of the best games of his short career.
