Star defender Jeremy McGovern is feeling fit and healthy as West Coast finalises preparations for its four-game Queensland mission.
The four-time All Australian was a notable absentee as 40 Eagles hit the track for a searching training session at Mineral Resources Park on Monday.
But McGovern reassured fans he was simply dealing with a cold and will be ready to go against Gold Coast in 11 days’ time at Metricon Stadium.
“I’m all good. I was fine. It’s just the protocols at the moment obviously around everyone if they’ve got the sniffles,” he told 96FM.
“I had to just go get checked for corona(virus) and everything is fine, I’m all good, I’m training again today.
“Everyone is a bit touchy around colds at the moment, which is fair enough, and I just had a few symptoms of it yesterday.”
The countdown is on until the Eagles fly east to set up in a hub at Royal Pines Resort next week ahead of an important run of games against the Suns, Lions, Power and Tigers.
McGovern, who revealed an intense training regime in isolation helped him slim down, said West Coast’s players couldn’t wait to get back to doing what they do best.
“I think we’re scheduled in for four weeks (in Queensland) at this stage and that’s what all the boys have committed to. We’re going to go into it all guns blazing and do whatever we can to play some footy, which is what everyone wants and what we want,” he said.
However, the imposing backman just has one wish for hub life - that he doesn’t have to share a room.
“I hope we’re not. I love all my teammates but I love my own space more,” McGovern said with a laugh.
“We normally get our own rooms but obviously this situation is completely different, so I don’t know. That’s probably the thing for us, we don’t know exactly the arrangements yet.
“I’d love to (take my family) but I think the situation at the moment is they’d have to stay in the hotel with us. I’ve got two kids under two in a hotel room.
“I think that’s a bit unfair on everyone, the kids especially if they’re locked in a little hotel room.”
