A talent-laden Peel outfit has ended East Perth's five-game winning streak and relegated the Royals to fifth spot on the WAFL ladder with just three games remaining in the home-and-away season.

The Thunder rolled in some big midfield guns and reaped the rewards with a convincing 13.11 (89) to 7.11 (53) victory over the Royals at Medibank Stadium on Saturday.

The result puts East Perth in a precarious postion with bouts against two-time reigning champions Subiaco, second-placed South Fremantle and finals' fancies East Fremantle on the horizon.

Tom Lamb got the Royals off to a fast start with a strong mark and true set shot in just the second minute of the contest and Jonathan Giles doubled the home team’s lead with a crafty crumb and snap from 25m out.

East Perth was dealt a cruel blow when half-back Xavier Ellis suffered a soft tissue injury in the 18^th minute of the quarter and Thunder captain Gerard Ugle rubbed salt into the Royals’ wound with a running left foot shot from  45m to reduce Peel’s deficit to five points at quarter time.

Dockers’ regular Matthew Taberner took a strong overhead clunk and converted his set shot from 15 early in the second quarter to kick start a run of four unanswered goals for the Thunder.

Jonathan Griffin kicked a goal almost identical to that of the second stanza opener moments later, Taberner bagged his second major following a holding free kick and Andrew Haydon snared his first six-pointer of the day when he reeled in an uncontested mark and speared through his drop punt from 35m.

Royals’ league debutant Sam Powell-Pepper and Mitch Brown kicked back-to-back goals to give East Perth some hope of a fightback, but Haydon edged the Thunder ahead by 12 points on the stroke of half-time with a long bomb from outside the 50m arc.

Signs of a Peel runaway appeared ominous as its experienced midfield – featuring the likes of Matt De Boer, Tendai Mzungu, Anthony Morabito and 2016 NAB Rising Star nominee Connor Blakely – started to gain ascendancy in the middle of the paddock.

East Perth’s fears were confirmed when Griffin goalled in the sixth minute, Mzungu worked behind Lamb for an uncontested mark and converted from 20m and Traye Bennell sent home his set shot from 25m in the 19^th minute of the term.

Jack Hannath added the Thunders’ fourth-straight goal of the term with a strong contested mark and straight kick in the 23^rd minute and Rory O’Brien capped off the five-goals-to-none quarter with a sneaky snap in traffic a minute before the siren.

Hannath extended Peel’s lead to 52 points early in the final quarter with a shot from point blank range and Bennell kicked the visitors’ seventh-straight major with a simple set shot from 20m on a slight angle.

To make matters worse key Royals’ midfielder Patrick McGinnity, who had been battling a hard Blakely tag all day, suffered a finger injury early in the piece that cast him to the sidelines.

East Perth saved face with the final three goals of the contest via Jonathan Giles, Lamb and Shayne Hille, but it did little to console the team after a heavy 46-point loss.

Developing centre Luke Partington battled all day to collect 25 disposals, Lewis Jetta used the ball well on 22 occasions and Brant Colledge laid six tackles on top of his 22 disposals.

Half-back Tom Cole saw plenty of the ball due to Peel’s supply dominance, as did Eric Mackenzie, who got his hands on the ball 22 times.

Lamb and Giles were among the Royals’ best with two goals each, Paddy Brophy ran hard for 16 touches while forward Mitch Brown and midfielder Corey Adamson collected 17 possessions each.

Malcolm Karpany amassed 14 disposals while McGinnity was held to just eight disposals through three quarters before suffering his injury.
