Success for Legacy
West Coast fans gave generously at last week's HMAS Sydney II fundraising match
Despite the game not going to plan on the field, we achieved great success off it.
Volunteers kindly offered their time to tin shake around the ground pre-game and through the function rooms at half-time.
Each year we are overwhelmed by your support, and again the WA football public showed their generosity, raising $9,866 for Legacy.
Legacy is a charity which provides services to Australian families suffering socially or financially after a spouse or parent is injured or perishes from servicing our defence force.
On hand to toss the coin on Sunday was Henry Diddams, the son of Sergeant Blaine Diddams, who was tragically killed in action in Afghanistan last year. The club was privileged to have Henry and his family come along and represent Legacy on the day.
Before the game, a curtain-raiser was played between the Air Force and the Navy, and we were truly honoured to be joined by Jim Lavender, a crew member aboard the HMAS Sydney II who left the ship just months before she sank.
It was great to have Jim along as a guest of honour, particularly as he’s been a lifelong Eagles supporter and had never had the opportunity to watch the team live in action.
The day was a great success and the club is proud to have such generous fans.
Well done to everyone involved in supporting such an important cause.
