The Perth Chinese New Year Fair is an annual free community event that provides excitement, entertainment and enjoyment to families and people of all ages. First staged in January 2012, the fair attracted an estimated crowd of more than 60,000 in 2014.
The event will be held from 12pm to 9pm this Sunday in Northbridge. James Street and Lake Street will be lined with approximately 100 stalls, and Nicks Lane will also host a range of interactive multicultural activities.
There will be street performances at every half hour interval on James street, including lion and dragon dances, Chinese ethnic costume parade, WA police pipe band parade, and a stage show from 12pm to 6pm on Roe Street in front of Chinatown. The event will climax with a multicultural concert from 7pm to 9pm at the Northbridge Piazza.
Lake Street will boast a number of fun-filled attractions such as Cup and Saucer Ride, Clown Playport and Slide, Simulator Ride, Laughing Clowns Game, Lucky Numbers, Pluck a Duck Game and Muppets Game.
A Kids’ Zone will operate from 12pm to 4pm at Northbridge Piazza. Get wet, cool off and have fun at our giant water slide and interesting activity stalls that are catered for the kids, such as face painting, balloonist and clowns.
According to Chinese beliefs, God of Fortune is the god that can bring in wealth and riches. During our festive event, Gods of Fortune will hand the red packets to the kids as blessings of great luck and large wealth.
This free annual community event aims at promoting Chinese culture and sharing in the festivities of Chinese New Year.
