West Coast was back to support the Senior Recreation Council of WA’s annual Have a Go Day at Burswood Park on Wednesday, November 11 as part of the club’s ‘Eagles in their Prime’ program.
Have a Go Day - now in its 22nd year – aims to encourage the community (aged 45 or over) to get involved, stay connected and try new activities to keep mentally and physically healthy.
Designed to showcase a range of activities, targeting seniors clubs and groups to keep them active, this free event has been growing in size each year, attracting over 15,000 people.
The West Coast Eagles were there all day to encourage supporters to have a go at improving their kicking skills and win great prizes, including a Crown Perth $100 voucher, thanks to Crown. Even club mascot Rick the Rock got involved, having a go at the rock-climbing wall, with people entering a free competition to guess how long it would take him, for the chance to win a Nic Naitanui signed guernsey.
The day was run as part of Seniors Week and was the perfect way to remind people of the value of sport and recreation in their lives. Other activities available to try included kayaking, rock-climbing, archery, dancing, medical checks plus much, much more.
As well as Have a Go Day, the SRCWA, a volunteer-based organisation, facilitates a range of programs for the state’s seniors including the Aged Care Games, Exergaming and Activity Days.
