Sharrod Wellingham made a welcome return to the training track, albeit on a modified program, in a strong indication that he is making good progress from his latest ankle injury.
The former Collingwood midfielder, traded to West Coast over the summer, has played just three games after an injury-interrupted 2013 season, but could be back within three weeks.
He was engaged in some solid conditioning work and run-throughs and even did some short ball work.
Wellingham has shown, even in his all-too-brief appearances for the club, that he some valuable attributes and he will be aiming to impact in the second half of the year.
While Wellingham is making progress towards a resumption, Adam Selwood, one of the club’s great warriors, continues to fight a back injury which has reduced his effectiveness in some games. He will be rested for the next couple of weeks.
Young forward Brant Colledge strained a hamstring playing for Perth on the weekend and will miss the next month while a string of senior players - Darren Glass, Josh Kennedy, Beau Waters and Mark LeCras - have all been listed as tests and could play against Hawthorn on Friday night.
Cale Morton, who strained a hamstring a fortnight ago, has been listed as available.
