Irish recruit Paddy Brophy will take a significant step forward in his quest to play in the AFL when he makes his senior debut with East Perth in the opening round of the WAFL season tomorrow night.
Brophy, the club’s first sojourn into the Irish talent pool, has been impressive in his first five months at the club, and has earned an opportunity in the Royals’ opener against East Fremantle at Domain Stadium.
Tall, athletic and competitive, Brophy has played well in practice matches – largely in defence – and has made an encouraging adjustment to the Australian game in a short period.
While Brophy will play his first official senior game at any level, two more young draftees will also play their first league match.
Father-son prospect Alec Waterman, who has the capacity to accumulate big numbers through the midfield, and the club’s first selection in the November ballot, Liam Duggan, will also debut for the Royals.
It looms as an exciting opening to the WAFL season and will provide keen West Coast supporters with the opportunity to see the club’s emerging talent in action.
