When West Coast take on St Kilda at Patersons Stadium this weekend, the club will be aiming for success both on and off the field.

This weekend marks AFL Indigenous Round, with the West Coast Eagles proudly recognising the contribution of Indigenous Australians to the AFL competition.

As the club acknowledges past and present Indigenous players, this match presents a unique opportunity to promote the David Wirrpanda Foundation (DWF), a charity formed by past Indigenous club great David Wirrpanda. The DWF aims to enrich the lives of young people in the Indigenous community.

Supported by BHP Billiton, the themed match will showcase the invaluable work of the foundation in supporting WA’s Indigenous youth, as well as raise funds to enable this work to continue.

David Wirrpanda Foundation scarves will be exclusively available around the ground before the games, with the club urging fans to support this worthy cause by purchasing scarves or donating the tin shakers around the stadium.

The West Coast Eagles will also have didgeridoo players stationed around the stadium, Indigenous face painting, Aboriginal dancers and a guard of honour made up of past and present Indigenous West Coast players as the team run out on the ground.

In addition, the centre circle of Patersons Stadium will be painted in the colours of the Indigenous flag and the West Coast Eagles will run through a banner dedicated to the celebration of Indigenous Round.

The West Coast Eagles is delighted to have principal community partner BHP Billiton on board as match day sponsor for this culturally significant game. BHP Billiton has also generously offered to double the amount raised by their staff volunteers on the day as part of their matched giving program, so keep an eye out for BHP tin-shakers around the ground.
