Four of the best
A split round in the WAFL, with only two matches played across the weekend, saw only four West Coast-listed players in action, but it was a case of quality versus quantity.
Each of those four players contributed significantly to their teams’ cause with two players in particular – Subiaco ruckman-forward Callum Sinclair and West Perth midfielder Mark Hutchings – pressing for higher honours.
Sinclair has been in outstanding for the Lions and continued that form last Friday night, despite his team slipping to defeat against West Perth.
Sinclair had 17 disposals, kicked two goals and won more than 40 hit outs in a performance that would give the match committee much to consider as it ponders the structure for the round two encounter against Hawthorn.
Hutchings, who resumed after missing a week with hamstring tightness, was again a prime mover for the Falcons with 25 possessions, four marks and six goals, proving most effective around the stoppages.
Sinclair and Hutchings shone and have done enough to warrant consideration against the Hawks.
East Perth Blayne Wilson and Cale Morton were also under notice, Wilson proving efficient at half-back and Morton playing consistently on a wing and contributing to the Royals’ victory.
Morton accumulated 19 possessions and laid six tackles while Wilson had 17 possessions an d five marks in a tidy defensive effort.
