SGIO and the West Coast Eagles kicked a surprisingly good goal worth $100,000 for Western Australian charities this year.
SGIO, with the help of the West Coast Eagles and its fans, successfully achieved its target of raising $100,000 via its Surprisingly Good Goals campaign to help fund community initiatives across WA.
At the beginning of the season, SGIO pledged to donate $200 per West Coast goal. Our charitable Eagles managed to muster 323 majors in season 2016, equating to $64,000 raised for charity on field. To celebrate its 30-year partnership with the West Coast Eagles, SGIO also engaged fans to help through the season by submitting videos of their own surprisingly good goals and donated $30 to charity for each submitted. With the help of fans and West Coast Eagles legend Quinten Lynch – who participated in the Surprisingly Good Goal finale held at Busselton’s famed jetty – SGIO raised a total of $100,922 by the end of the season.
Money raised from the Surprisingly Good Goals initiative will be donated to three worthy West Australian charities: Reconciliation WA, Lifeline WA and the Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA.
SGIO will be supporting Reconciliation WA in their efforts to encourage schools to participate in a reconciliation journey with local indigenous Australians. Reconciliation WA will use the funds to offer grants to six schools to introduce or further develop their reconciliation programs.
With WA having the second highest suicide rate in Australia, SGIO will assist Lifeline WA to train more crisis counsellors to help meet the increasing number of calls that are made to their 13 11 14 helpline.
SGIO will also lend a helping hand to the Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA by funding their Take a Break respite program, which gives people living with MND and their families respite from the everyday burden of MND.
