Rick the Rock ventured to Broome alongside West Coast Eagles schools and community development officers Bradd Dalziell and Joe Wear for an exclusive, three-day educational expedition recently.
Rick and Dalziell visited three primary schools – St Mary’s, Broome and Broome North – to teach the children about the importance of demonstrating resilience.
Dalziell spoke about how to be resilient by forming relationships with friends and teachers.
“It’s important for the kids to understand resilience and how to remain optimistic with everything they do,” Dalzeill said.
“They relate to this well when we talk them through how Rick the Rock is resilient and how he overcomes specific challenges.”
Broome North Primary School physical education coordinator Allison Durling said the kids lapped up Rick’s visit.
“There were some funny quotes from the kids,” Durling said.
“I want Rick the Rock to take all of our Health classes from now on.”
On day two of their visit, Dalziell and Wear ventured to Broome Senior High School and St Mary’s College to present West Coast’s Eagle Insight program.
Students learned about how the players trained, recovered and what nutritional requirements they had to adhere to as elite athletes.
Rick and Dalzeill were greeted by hundreds of students eager to play some Auskick at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre on the third and final day of the regional excursion.
Broome Auskick coordinator Sally Nagy said the kids were thrilled to meet Rick the Rock while playing the game they loved.
“Everyone had a great morning and Rick even jumped in the canteen to offer a helping hand to our volunteers,” Nagy said.
