The West Coast Eagles lent a helping hand to the WA Football Commission’s Talent Academy WA under-23 and WA AFLW under-18 teams ahead of their curtain raiser clash at at Domain Stadium on Friday.
West Coast manager of game development Adam Selwood and Naitanui Academy high performance coach Drew Petrie provided coaching support and game plan analysis to the squads during their training sessions at Curtin University’s South Oval last night.
Adam Selwood said he was excited about the next wave of talent’s desire to become AFLW players.
“The West Coast Eagles are fully committed to the female football development pathway and part of this role is to assist with the talent academies throughout the state,” Selwood said.
“These are the best girls outside Fremantle’s AFLW side that will be running around the one oval.
“It’s an exciting prospect for the club that they may one day become a West Coast Eagle in the AFLW league in the future.”

Drew Petrie and Adam Selwood passed on some tips to the WA AFLW under-18 team last night
West Australia Football Commission female programs talent manager Clint Degebrodt said Selwood and Petrie’s contribution to the academy had been significant.
“The West Coast Eagles have been involved with the WAFC’s Talent Academy Program since December 2016 and have ramped up their contact since we selected the State 23s and 18s squads,” Degebrodt said.
“The involvement of Adam and Drew will take us to a new level.
“Adam brings passion and experience and a genuine love of the game and enthusiasm to educate both players and coaches and Drew has proved just as passionate and professional. The West Coast Eagles have invested energy and time and the return for the players will be immense.
“The players get to prepare for their state representation duties on the best facilities in WA.
“It’s WA’s top talent on show, on the main stage, all in one place at one time.”
Friday’s curtain raiser will kick off at 3:15pm.
Petrie said he was excited to play a role in this game.
“It’ll be fantastic to see as many West Coast supporters come down and encourage the girls on the main stage,” Petrie said.
