The West Coast Eagles launched its 2016 Dig Deep campaign aimed at raising funds for the Cancer Council of WA today.
Over the past 12 years Dig Deep Day has grown in stature and has helped West Coast become one of Cancer Council WA’s largest corporate donors.
West Coast Eagles Cancer Council WA ambassadors Luke Shuey and Andrew Gaff announced this afternoon that the club had once again teamed up with Caltex to sell its iconic Dig Deep wrist bands, which have helped raise more than $1.1 million for Cancer Council WA since the initiative was born in 2005.
Shuey encouraged Eagles fans, football supporters and the general public to buy several $5 wristbands ahead of Dig Deep Day, which coincides with West Coast's round 18 match against Melbourne at Domain Stadium.
“We pride ourselves on the work we can do outside of the footy club and in the community, so twelve straight years is something we are very proud of,” Shuey said about the Eagles’ Dig Deep campaign.
“We have managed to raise $1.1 million so far.
“It’s a huge effort, but this year we are looking to raise at least another $100,000.
“We are aiming to find a cure for cancer, as everyone is.
“It’s something that we hold extremely close to our hearts.
The Dig Deep wristbands are on sale now at Caltex service stations, the West Coast Eagles Team Store and the Cancer Council WA's Subiaco shop.
They will also be available for purchase at Domain Stadium before and after West Coast’s battle with Melbourne on Saturday, July 23.
"I urge any West Coast or Melbourne supporters out there to get along to the game and support a battle that is a much bigger battle than the game itself," Shuey said.
All the money raised from the Dig Deep campaign goes to the Cancer Council Western Australia.
Since its berth in 2005, the annual Dig Deep Day campaign has been an amazing success.
This is the eighth year Caltex have been on board to support the Dig Deep campaign, providing their stores as locations for fans to purchase Dig Deep fundraising items.
The West Coast Eagles Football Club would like to thank Caltex, its staff and franchisees for supporting the Dig Deep campaign again in 2016.
