East Perth secured its third consecutive win of the 2016 WAFL season with a 44-point win over Perth at Lathlain Park on Saturday.
The Royals kicked out to an early lead thanks to a three-goals-to-none opening quarter, but the home side hit back in the second term and drew within two points of East Perth at the main break.
The visitors surged ahead again in the third quarter, booting five goals to the Demons’ two, and stormed home in the final period with eight goals to run out 17.9 (111) to 10.7 (67) victors.
Second-year Eagle Tom Lamb was the Royals’ primary target up forward and kicked a bag of five goals at Lathlain Park – his biggest haul for season 2016.
He was well assisted by fellow forward Matt Allen and dogged midfielders Luke Partington and Patrick McGinnity, who each kicked two goals.
On-baller Corey Adamson enjoyed his best outing for the season and collected 26 disposals and eight marks, while Mark Hutchings, who featured in West Coast’s emphatic win over Richmond last Friday night, continued his good form with 23 disposals, five marks and six tackles.
Irish rookie Paddy Brophy was also serviceable in the middle of the ground with 13 touches.
Jonathan Giles, who was seemingly on the cusp of an Eagles’ call up this weekend, stepped up in the centre of the ground, effecting 33 hit-outs.
The 201cm big man also pushed forward as an attacking target and kicked 1.1 against the Demons.
Brandt Colledge, who missed last week’s win over West Perth, bagged one goal for the Royals, Jamie Bennell kicked 1.1 and collected 10 disposals while defenders Tom Cole, Jackson Nelson and Tom Barrass worked tirelessly at the back of the ground to restrict Perth to just 10 goals for the entire game.
East Perth return home to Medibank Stadium on Sunday to take on East Fremantle at 12.10pm.
