Athletic midfielder Elliot Yeo joined an exclusive club within the West Coast Eagles when he was tonight crowned the John Worsfold medallist at the Club Champion Awards.

In doing so, Yeo became only the sixth player in the club’s 32-year history to win multiple awards and the first since decorated captain Darren Glass (2007, 2009, 2011).

The other multiple award winners have been Glen Jakovich (1993, 1994, 1995, 2000), Ben Cousins (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005), Guy McKenna (1989, 1999) and Chris Judd (2004, 2006).

Significantly, Judd attended the ceremony at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, the 2006 premiership captain being awarded life membership, despite his 134 games falling short of the automatic qualifying mark of 150 games.

Yeo backed up an outstanding 2017 season, where he oscillated between half-back and midfield, with arguably an even better year as the club won its fourth premiership.

He played almost exclusively through the midfield, his strength and power proving valuable assets around stoppages and his penetrating kicking skills also an effective weapon.

It was that powerful right leg that put the Eagles in front for the first time in the game in the middle of the third term when he converted from 50 metres.

Back-to-back Woosha’s was a highlight for Yeo, but the top 10 in the award provided a number of great story lines. None better than runner-up Jack Redden, whole polled 231 votes – 42 fewer than runaway winner Yeo.

In third position was revered captain Shannon Hurn (222), while small forward Jamie Cripps (218) cracked the top five for the first time in his career.

Hurn, who earned all-Australian selection, was again remarkably consistent and was rewarded with his third top five finish in succession.

Andrew Gaff, who did not play the last six games because of suspension, all-Australian defender Jeremy McGovern, midfield minder Mark Hutchings, half-back Brad Sheppard and forwards Jack Darling and Willie Rioli rounded out the top 10.

Rioli’s achievement of a top 10 finish in his first season was remarkable and that distinction was recognised by winning the emerging talent award.

Lewis Jetta, the half-back with dancing feet, won the coveted Chris Mainwaring Medal as best clubman.

Aside from Judd, the honour of life membership was also bestowed upon inaugural captain Ross Glendinning, long-serving administrator Steve Woodhouse, 1994 premiership ruckman David Hynes, Sheppard and Naitanui, who reached their 150 game milestone in 2018.
