SIDS and Kids WA hosted another successful Sunshine Beach Run at City Beach on Sunday, raising over $120,000 for the charity.
It was another stellar turnout down at as families flocked in masses on Sunday morning to support such a great cause, taking part in either the 1km, 3km or 5km walk or run along the sand.
West Coast Eagles physiotherapist Chris Perkin, who sadly lost his wife and unborn son six years ago, has championed the event from day one and hopes this cause can continue to gain the publicity that it has.
“We had a great turnout from friends, family and people involved in SIDS,” Perkin said.
“It’s a day where many families over time get together and share the moment or perhaps memories, while raising funds for a good cause.
“This year, all of the money is going towards the counselling support that they offer.”
While the event fell on the morning of West Coast’s final NAB Challenge game against the Dockers, several players that weren’t selected for the match turned up to show their support towards their friend.
“It was great to once again get the support of the Eagles and many of the players who weren’t playing in the NAB Challenge clash,” Perkin divulges.
“It just made for a great feeling around the event.”
Speaking at the event key defender Mitch Brown was thrilled to see so many families and players attend such a worthwhile morning at the beach.
“It’s just awesome to see such a great turnout,” Brown remarks.
“I know some of our boys are pretty sore from playing in last night’s game for the Royals, but it’s an event that they just wouldn’t miss.
“Chris has such a great relationship with so many of the players and to see how much work he puts in to make days like this special, I’m sure the community is greatly appreciative.”
