He’s done it!
Liam Ryan has won the 2019 AFL Mark of the Year for his spectacular clunk against Melbourne in round nine.
The 22-year-old became the third West Coast Eagle to claim the prestigious prize, following in the footsteps of Ashley Sampi (2004) and teammate Nic Naitanui (2015).
Ryan earned two of the three nominations for this year’s Mark of the Year prize, but it was his memorable grab over Demons’ goliath Max Gawn that earned him the title.
With scores locked at 67 points apiece in the final quarter, Ryan received the ball in the midfield at Optus Stadium and passed it off to a free Josh Kennedy.
Noticing there were no options in the attacking arc, he sprinted 60m towards the top of the goal square and called for the ball.
Kennedy obliged and sent the Sherrin Ryan's way.
The Geraldton product, whose eyes were locked on the ball, sprinted towards the top of the square, leapt into Gawn and pulled down a once-in-a-lifetime mark.
Ryan kept his acceptance speech at tonight's Brownlow Medal short and simple.
"Thanks, Maxy," Ryan said.
