West Coast Eagles premiership backman Will Schofield and emerging defender Francis Watson have agreed to one year contract extensions with the club.
Schofield will play on into a 14th season with the side that drafted him back in 2006.
The 30 year old has notched up 190 games and played a crucial role in the 2018 premiership.
General Manager of Football Craig Vozzo paid tribute to the selfless and reliable defender,
“We are delighted that Will has agreed to stay on with us for another season. His team first attitude is greatly admired by his team mates and the club and he will no doubt play an important role for us in 2020.”
Schofield has been a devoted club man at West Coast and is committed to playing his role again in 2020,
“I am proud and privileged to sign on for another year with this great club.
I will be doing everything in my power to help this club push for its fifth premiership,” Schofield said.
The defender paid tribute to the club’s family culture and the support that has surrounded him throughout his career,
“I would love to say thank you for the continued support from my family, friends and the footy club.” Said Schofield.
Along with Schofield, youngster Francis Watson has earned another season in the blue and gold.
The rebounding defender made his AFL debut in 2019 in a memorable round 18 clash against Melbourne in Alice Springs.
The big stage didn’t bother Watson, who racked up 14 disposals and 8 marks. The young defender also contributed against North Melbourne in his second match.
Watson was a pivotal defender in club’s inaugural WAFL side, playing 14 games including the club’s first two finals.
The 24 year old, originally from Balgo in the far north of Western Australia will be upgraded from the rookie list in 2020.
Vozzo said the exciting defender continues to develop,
“We feel that Frankie showed some really promising signs particularly in the back half of the season and we are pleased to elevate him to our Primary List for 2020. We are confident that his best football is still ahead of him.”
