Jack Redden is the ultimate understated midfielder who does his job each week, focusing on the little team things and going about it with little fuss. Very much like the Eagles, Redden built into his season, but as the Eagles gathered a head of steam approaching September Redden lifted with his team, getting better as the year wore on.
Standout performance: Mr September strikes again
The Eagles let an opportunity slip and fell into an elimination final against the Bombers, and it was Redden, Mr September himself, who stepped up to lift his team towards victory. Redden’s presence in the middle, particularly at stoppage, was prolific, as well as linking up through the middle of the ground as the Eagles attacked their forward half. Redden gathered 29 disposals (14 contested), took nine marks, laid six tackles and had four inside 50s to be one of the Eagles’ best in a big finals win.
